Recreational Gymnastics (ages 7-18)

Recreational Gymnastics Classes

Our recreational gymnatics classes offer beginner through advanced instruction for boys and girls ages 7-18. Rollers and Turners have classes at the River Falls Gymnastics Club (RFGC) Gym located off of Hwy 35.  Twisters-Saltos have classes at the Meyer Middle School Gym- Park in the back of the south parking lot and enter through door #39.

Please view the schedule carefully as some classes are offered at both gym locations.

 

Students should wear leotards or shorts and a t-shirt. No socks or jewlery. Students with long hair should tie it back. We kindly ask that all parents remain in the entry hallway to the gym and do not come into the gymnastics area. This helps to create a safe environment for your children and families.


Rollers

(Ages 7+) Beginning level instruction of basic skills for tumbling, vaulting, uneven bars, and balance beam. No previous experience required or this is the class after the Jungle Gym. Class will meet for 1 hour.

Rollers classes are split into classes for ages 7+ and classes for ages 9+ (see schedule for Rollers 9+ only class).  Classes open to boys and girls

Some skills rollers work on and try to perfect are:

Floor: Forward and backward rolls with the proper technique, a lunge into 3/4 handstand, a bridge with straight arms and legs, a cartwheel, turn holds, different jumps with the proper form and headstands.

Beam: Walking forward, backwards and sideways, squat half turn, front support mount, v-sit, little handstands on the low beam and a stretch jump dismount.

Bars: Chin holds, tuck hangs, back pull over, front support, hallow hold, casting and forward roll dismount with straight legs.

Vault: run/sprint with proper technique, jump off board, squat on onto blocks.

 ~ Class meets once per week for 60 minutes

 

Turners

Class is designed for students who have had beginning level gymnastics and can perform a forward and backward roll, cartwheel and a lunge kick up. Children who pass the Rollers class go onto Turners next. Class will meet for 1 ¼ hours. Classes open to boys and girls.

Some skills turners will work towards getting and will need these before Twisters:

Floor: Dive Roll, Handstand, 5 seconds using a mat, Bridge kick overs, Power hurdle cartwheel, 1/2 toe Turn, Jump Half Turn, split leap 45 degrees and opposite leg cartwheels.

Beam: Straight jump, Split jump on LB, Releve Walks F/S/B, front support mount into a squat on,  Jump 1/2 turn dismount, handstands on the high beam

Bars: Swings, pullover, cast, forward roll dismount, cast back hip circle, chip up holds and tuck hangs

Vault: hurdle, squat-on on table, handstand flat back and straight jump onto blocks

 

~ Class meets once per week for 75 minutes

Twisters

Instruction for students who can perform most of the skills that Turners can perform or have passed the turners class. Class will meet for 1 ½ hours.  Classes open to boys and girls.

Some skills that Twisters will work on and need to get before Saltos are:

Floor: Backward roll to prone, Handstand fwd rolls w/bent arms, Power roundoff with rebound, Handstand -good form-10sec., Split leap - 90 degrees and toe full turn

Beam: Side squat-on mount from board, Pivot turns, Handstand on high beam with spot, split jumps 45 degrees, cartwheel on low beam and cartwheel dismount to front drop onto a mat.

Bars: Squat on from block, 3 tap swings with proper form, pike or straddle glide, Pullover cast back hip circle underswing dismount connected, 8 shoulder touches on the handstand trainer and pike hang for 5 sec.

Vault: improved hurdle, handstand onto table with spot, block to flatblack onto mat and power squat (no hands)

~ Class meets once per week for 90 minutes

Saltos

This class is for students who can perform most of the skills Twisters can perform or have passed the Twisters class. They will start working on back handsprings and will prepare for Pre-Team. Class will meet for 1 ½ hours.  Classes open to boys and girls.

Some skills Saltos need to master before being moved up to Pre Team are:

Floor: Front handspring, handstand forward roll with straight arms, back walk over, power roundoff backward roll, back handspring and a 2 jump series

Beam: Side squat on mount with board, toe ½ turn, lever handstand, split leap 45 degrees, cartwheel on high beam and round off dismount

Bars: Kip with spot, 3 straight leg lifts, long hang pull over, 3 tap swings to flat back and cast squat on

Vault: Handspring flat back off floor to 2 mats, handstand hops and a handspring with spot
